Why choose Microsoft Teams for VoIP?

In terms of hardware, installation, and maintenance, legacy business phone systems are incredibly expensive. Microsoft Teams VoIP calling is cheaper—both in setup and maintenance—because it runs over your existing internet infrastructure and integrates into Microsoft 365.

Adding new lines in Teams is much simpler and cheaper since the entire system is digital. Your Microsoft partner simply configures Teams to add new VoIP lines, connect new desk phones, and assist with mobile app installation. It’s an easy way to meet seasonal spikes in demand—or onboard new team members.

Teams calls sound crisp and clear, like high-definition audio. You’ll never struggle to understand the other person or ask them to repeat something.

A Teams phone number isn’t tied down to a physical phone line. This means you can easily move desk phones around as needed within the office—or between different locations.

This is a massive benefit for team members who travel frequently. With the Teams application on their mobile phone, they can answer their work calls from anywhere, as long as they have an internet connection.

Since Microsoft Teams is a digital-first platform, it can easily handle conference calls. No more worries about special hardware, getting calls bridged, or having to call IT in the middle of an important meeting. Teams just works.

Want to skim a voicemail in written form or forward it to a colleague? Teams has you covered with next-generation digital voicemail features.

Microsoft VoIP Teams FAQs

It’s incredibly easy. Just find the Teams contact you want to call and click the icon to place a call. You can find contacts from your address book, from an existing Teams chat, or from an email.

Absolutely! All Microsoft Teams VoIP solutions support calling an internal Teams phone from your own device. With the addition of an Enterprise Voice or Business Voice license, your employees can also send and receive calls to any phone number.

Their Teams-enabled device notifies them, and they can pick up the call. Calling occurs directly, with no need to host a Teams meeting, and the conversation will remain private. You can call one contact directly, or multiple contacts in a conference call.

The only notable disadvantage of VoIP in general is the fact that it depends on your network connection, and that applies to Teams as well. If your company’s network performance is unreliable, that could impact your Teams phone experience. However, if that’s the case, you probably have bigger issues related to connectivity and productivity. Solving those issues will also eliminate the (potential) disadvantage of using Teams for your business phone needs.

Yes! You just have to configure Teams and your phone correctly. Read more here: How to text a Teams phone number.
