Two organizations in Indiana are recovering from cyber-attacks, but their recoveries are looking very different. Here’s why.  

La Porte County was hit with ransomware that locked up part of the government’s computer system. After talking with FBI cyber experts, county leaders determined that decryption keys would not work, so the La Porte County government ended up paying the ransom and transferred $130,000 in Bitcoin to hackers.  

South Bend Clinic was hit with a malware attack, but a cyber security firm quickly contained and removed the malware. A spokesperson for South Bend Clinic says, “The malware was detected early, so patient data was not breached. Our cybersecurity firm also confirmed that data never left the South Bend Clinic.”
